What is the
GAPS initiative?

GAPS focuses on the interaction between individual, community, and systemic dynamics to provide holistic care. Our goal is to help adolescents build emotional resilience, develop coping mechanisms, and foster a supportive environment for long-term mental health wellness.

What we know & why GAPS matters

Embedding perinatal-trained behavioral health clinicians within OB/GYN, fertility, and early family education settings is the best way to close the gaps between screening and care.

And those gaps are not small, with untreated PMAD costs estimated at ~$32,000 per mother-baby dyad in healthcare costs and productivity losses or job presenteeism.

Which is where MMHC & GAPS steps in to provide proximate, timely care with the specialized clinical expertise for the natal journey.

The goal of GAPS is to ...

Normalize access to perinatal mental health care
by embedding behavioral health providers directly into medical settings.
Improve early detection and treatment
of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders through proactive screening and warm handoffs.
Address barriers to care
such as stigma, fragmented referrals, and limited access in rural areas using
Support continuity and whole-family care
by recognizing the mental health needs of both birthing and non-birthing parents during the perinatal journey.
